ARLINGTON,
TEXAS - The 2006 / 2007 Season Finale will be held at
the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth on
Friday, June 22nd at 8:00 p.m.
The
program will consist of significant world premiere works by company
artistic directors, Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov.
The
program will open with Mr. Mejia's Jeux (Games), a delightful
pas de trios involving a boy, two girls and a playful game of tennis.
The ballet is set to Claude Debussy's Jeux, the last and perhaps
finest orchestral work written by the French composer. It was originally
intended to accompany Nijinsky's choreography for Serge Diaghilev's
Ballet Russes, which premiered in 1913 in Paris.
The
program will conclude with Mr. Vetrov's Joaquin Murieta,
a two-act Rock Opera-ballet based on the life, love and death of
the legendary bandito character from the gold rush days of the Wild
West. The ballet is set to music by Alexei
Rybnikov with lyrics by Pavel
Grushko based on motives from Paul Neruda's dramatic cantata
about Murieta. Mr. Rybnikov, a prominent composer and musician based
in Moscow, has established a fascinating, multi-dimensional career,
composing for film and other projects in Russia and around the world.
