FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10, 2005

ARLINGTON, Texas - Metropolitan Classical Ballet and The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra bring the cherished story of Peter and the Wolf, music by Sergei Prokofiev, to the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall on Sunday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to the Bank of America Discovery Concert, but tickets are required and must be requested in advance through the symphony's website at www.fwsymphony.org starting January 14.

Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya will conduct the concert and Paul Mejia, co-artistic director of the Metropolitan Classical Ballet, will provide the choreography. The performance will be narrated in both English and Spanish, by Claudia Acosta.

Peter and the Wolf is a classic work for children - a symphonic fairy tale in which each character is represented by a different orchestral instrument. The story tells of how young Peter ventures into a meadow, against his grandfather's orders, to catch a wolf. Together with his animal friends he catches the wolf using only a rope lasso, becoming the hero of his village. He hands the wolf over to some hunters, and all of the characters of the story come together in the finale, where the wolf is taken to the zoo in a triumphant procession.

Paul Mejia's choreography was first done in Chicago when he was then artistic director of the Chicago City Ballet. He has choreographed several versions since then, as it is tailored for the individual dancers. Mr. Mejia is especially pleased with this version which uses the exceptional talents of company dancers: Andre Prikhodko (as Peter), Kirill Shulepov (the wolf), Alexander Krivonos (the grandfather), and other characters: Marina Goshko, Maria Kudyakova Yevgeni Anfinogenov, Sarah Marr, Katie Puder, Melian Nordman, Danielle Cohen, Kalen Hansen and Natalie Norr. "These dancers love doing this ballet", he said, "They love to dance for children."

This marks the second year the company has joined with the Fort Worth Symphony in presenting Peter and the Wolf. A favorite of children and adults alike, the performance is the perfect introduction to both classical music and dance. There will be eight additional performances at Bass Performance Hall for FWISD school children as part of the Children's Education Program of Performing Arts Fort Worth. However, these performances are not open to the public.

The Bank of America Discovery Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 30. Admission is free of charge, but tickets are required. Tickets may be requested online only at www.fwsymphony.org or by mail at 330 E. Fourth Street, Suite 200, Fort Worth, Texas, 76102, starting Jan. 14. No phone reservations will be accepted. Seating is general admission by section. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
