FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 6, 2004
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Metropolitan Ballet Academy, official school of Metropolitan Classical Ballet, has increased its space by adding two state-of-the-art studios. A stage-sized studio is used by Metropolitan Classical Ballet as a rehearsal studio, as well as, doubling as an intimate performance space for both the ballet company and the Academy. Centrally located in Arlington at 500 West Abram, the studio also houses Metropolitan Classical Ballet's administration offices. The original studios, the administration offices and lobby have also been redecorated, and the grounds have been landscaped. Future plans provide for a dance shop and boutique.
Metropolitan Classical Ballet artistic directors, Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov both lauded the expansion which will allow the school to expand its enrollment. Several classes have been added to the Vaganova based syllabus, which includes classes in ballet, pointe, variations, character, and body control. The school is under the direction of Yelena Borisova, former soloist with the Bolshoi in Moscow. Distinguished faculty members include Metropolitan Classical Ballet's artistic directors, Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov, several company principal dancers as well as Maria Terezia Balogh who was a principal dancer with both the Chicago City Ballet and the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet.
Frank Hill, president of Metropolitan Classical Ballet's board of directors, said, "We are pleased, finally, to have an academy and company home befitting the growth and quality of our faculty and company."
The new expansion has been completed in time for a preview of the Company's upcoming performance, Romantic Evening of Ballet, featuring violinist Eric Grossman and pianist Lowell Liebermann. Season subscribers, major ballet supporters, and other invited guests will have the opportunity to see sections from the mixed-repertory program consisting of George Balanchine's Who Cares? and two world premieres: Paul Mejia's D-Minor Sonata, set to music by Camille Saint-Saëns, and Eddy Toussaint's Edith Piaf, set to lyrics by the famous WWII era French singer, Edith Piaf.
