Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall

D Minor Sonata (world premiere)
Music by Camille Saint-Saëns
Choreography by Paul Mejia
Accompaniment by:
Eric Grossman, violinist
Lowell Liebermann, pianist

D Minor Sonata, choreographed by Paul Mejia, is set to the music of French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns. The world premiere ballet, performed by Andre Prikhodko, Marina Goshko and Maria Kudyakova, demonstrates through movement, a seamless, and seemingly effortless ballet in harmony with Saint-Saëns romantic music - an uninterrupted dialog between the voices of the piano and violin.

Edith Piaf (world premiere)
Choreography by Eddy Toussaint

Edith Piaf is set to lyrics sung by one of France's most beloved singers, Edith Piaf, who gained international acclaim shortly before and during World War II. Her music reflected her tragic life, with her specialty being the poignant ballad presented with a heartbreaking voice. The most famous songs performed by Piaf were La Vie en Rose (1946), Milord (1959), and Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (1960). Choreographer, Eddy Toussaint, has choreographed more than one hundred ballets, including Bonjour Brel, which was performed by Olga Pavlova and Alexander Vetrov two years ago. Ms. Pavlova will be performing the title role in Edith Piaf.

Who Cares?
Music by George Gershwin
Choreography by George Balanchine

Who Cares? was choreographed by George Balanchine to sixteen songs that were composed by Gershwin between 1924 and 1931, The songs include: I Got Rhythm, The Man I Love, Embraceable You, and My One and Only. Balanchine did not use the songs to evoke any particular era but as a way to portray a broadly American exuberance that is charged with the distinctive energy of Manhattan. The ballet premiered on February 7, 1970, New York City Ballet, New York State Theater.
