ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Metropolitan Classical Ballet's (formerly Ballet Arlington) co-artistic directors, Paul Mejia and Alexander Vetrov, have announced the 2004-2005 Season, which will consist of four mixed repertory productions all to be presented at the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth and The Nutcracker to be presented at Texas Hall in Arlington. The season offers a variety of Russian works, elegant and stylish works by Paul Mejia, significant works by the celebrated George Balanchine and others, and a series of classical divertissement. The audience can expect a return of some of the highlights of previous seasons. Ron Spigelman, music director for the Metropolitan Classical Ballet, will conduct the Texas Chamber Orchestra.
Metropolitan Classical Ballet is valued not only for its original repertoire but also for the great technique and strong artistic personalities of its dancers. New additions to the resident company are Melian Nordman and apprentices, Danielle Cohen, Kalen Hansen, Natalie Norr and Emma Wheatcroft-Pardue, bringing the number of resident dancers to sixteen.

FIRST MIXED PROGRAM (SEASON PREMIERE)

The Season Premiere opens with two returning favorites: Casanova Fantasy, a work about one of history's great lovers, Casanova. The ballet was created by Bolshoi choreographer, Michail Lavrovsky, for Alexander Vetrov when he [Vetrov] was the lead male principal dancer with the Bolshoi; Pas de Quatre, one of the most famous works in ballet history, premiered in London on July 12, 1845, at a command performance for Queen Victoria. Four of the greatest ballerinas of the nineteenth century, Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cerrito and Lucile Grahn, appeared together creating a great moment in the beautiful era of Romantic Ballet. The evening concludes with Paul Mejia's energetic ballet, Cowgirls Live Forever featuring vocalist, Elizabeth Blum and the Johnnie High Band.

The second mixed repertory program will consist of George Balanchine's Who Cares? set to the wonderful music of George Gershwin, and two world premieres: Edith Piaf, a work by choreographer Eddy Toussaint, set to the lyrics of the legendary Edith Piaf, and Paul Mejia's ballet, D Minor Sonata, set to music by Camille Saint Saens, which will feature violinist, Eric Grossman.

The Nutcracker, has been delighting audiences for years and has become a tradition in America. Alexander Vetrov's wonderful version influenced by the Bolshoi with colorful sets, glorious costumes, and Peter Tchaikovsky's wonderful score is no exception. This marks the eighth year the company has performed the holiday favorite.

The program opens with the classical, Raymonda, a work by nineteenth century Russian choreographer, Marius Petipa and is followed by Divertissement to include series of classical pas de deux filled with bravura and drama to include Inspiration, a romantic work by Paul Mejia, set to the sublime and haunting Ständchen by composer Franz Schubert.

The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth
The season finale consists of three powerful ballets. Prodigal Son, by George Balanchine, is from the parable in the Gospel According to St. Luke, and is considered to be one of the legendary choreographer's first works to achieve an international reputation. Paganini, originally choreographed by Mikhail Fokine in 1939, is a 1960 revival by Leonid Lavrovsky. Very Bolshoi in character and rarely seen by American audiences, the ballet is set to music by Rachmaninoff. The evening will conclude with Paquita, a work by nineteenth century Russian choreographer, Marius Petipa.
